80th Independence Day of India Celebration

The 80th Independence Day of India was celebrated at the High Commission of India, Freetown, on 15 August 2026 with great enthusiasm and patriotic spirit.
The celebrations commenced with the singing of the National Song, Vande Mataram, followed by the hoisting of the Tricolour by Charge d'Affaires, Mr Neeraj Kumar Saini, and the singing of the National Anthem. Thereafter, the Charge d'Affaires read out the Address to the Nation by the Hon'ble President of India on the eve of Independence Day.
The program featured vibrant cultural performances by children and members of the Indian diaspora. A special rendition of Vande Mataram by Mrs Ashna Jobin of the Sierra Leone Malayalese Association added to the patriotic spirit of the occasion. Local Boyzee group gave an energetic and vibrant performance on Bollywood Patriotic songs.
Around 300 members of the Indian community and friends of India participated enthusiastically in the celebrations.
The High Commission premises were adorned in the colors of the Tricolour as part of the #HarGharTiranga campaign. Community members, Mission officials and their families joined the campaign by sharing selfies with the National Flag and at the Har Ghar Tiranga Selfie Booth installed at the High Commission.
Charge d'Affaires Mr Neeraj Kumar Saini also felicitated participants of the Special Independence Day Edition of Bharat Ko Janiye Quiz, 'Viksit Bharat 2047' Painting Competition, 'India Through My Lens' Photography Competition, and the Madhubani Art Workshop, organized by the High Commission to mark India's 80th Independence Day.
